Mary Faye's Story
I was Mary Faye Brumley, class of '64, tho I did not graduate in Glendale. We moved my senior year, first to Las Vegas, then back home to Arkansas. I became a teacher, BSE from a branch of the University of Arkansas, MSE from University of Central Arkansas. Social Studies, English and Master's in Sp. Ed. Taught school 33 years, most of them in the same small school district. Married a policeman, divorced after nearly 30 years, one son and three grandchildren. Bought another home, worked, retired and took care of my mother for over 6 years. She passed away last January.
Now it's down to me and my dog, and my dog isn't well..Have just bought a new Buick Enclave SUV and intend to do some traveling with friends. First big trip comes up in September. We'll be gone a month. Intend to go out to Northwest Coast and come back through California and the Southwest, sightseeing all the way.
Have fond memories of Glendale High. Have often wondered what happened to some of my friends.
I live in a relatively small town, and enjoy the small town life. I've taught everybody and his grandkids, and if I break down on the side of the road, it's just a few minutes before somebody I know pulls over to help. My dentist is a former ...Expand for more
student, my doctor is a former student as are all her nurses. At this stage of my life, as is common is small Southern towns, I have become "Miz Mary"...a form of respect more intimate than the formal "Mrs. King."
Going to the grocery store or Wal Mart is an undertaking, because there's no such thing as shopping quickly and leaving. Everyone speaks to you and wants to visit. It's a social occasion and if you seem hurried without a good explanation, you hurt people's feelings. Hugs all round are in order, so you hug your way all over the store. Sometimes I don't even know who these middle aged men I'm hugging are, but they know me because I taught them 40 years ago when they were l3. So I just call them all "honey" and "darlin'", and tell them how they've grown up to be such big ole boys. I love it, except when I haven't had a bath or put make-up on...
I have former students in the pulpit and some on death row. Sometimes I was shocked, sometimes not.
Anyway, that's what I've done with my life..now my responsibilites are taken care of and I intend to do a few things for myself. My health is not the best in the world, so I intend to travel and sightsee while I can.
I would love to hear from anybody who remembers me.
